This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my class are pretty creative and very energetic. They are a mixed group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors from different boroughs. They are predominantly Hispanics and African American kids who altogether attend our school in lower Manhattan. They are a fun loving group of kids who are all eager and excited to learn something new everyday. I explained to them that since computer class is a new subject that will be offered in our school and it will require a lot of patience when doing online activities. They need to be open minded, have a lot of imagination, be willing to collaborate, as well as think logically through problems.

I am inspired by these students because everyday when they come in my classroom the first thing they tell me is “Ms. What creative lesson are we going to do today?” which gives me an idea that they look forward to doing creative computer science types of work.

My Project

One of my main goals is to support the department of educations' computer science for all program. I firmly believe that by undergoing this online training in addition to other CS courses I will be taking over the summer, I will ensure that by next school year every student in my care will receive meaningful, high-quality CS education at each grade level.

I plan to develop and implement a solid computer science curriculum complete with lesson plans and activity modules that students can work on in the classroom and also at home.

I also plan in the future to create short instructional videos or use existing computer science guided videos to help students as they start learning more lessons on computer science. Thanks for coordinating this event, CSTA.
