Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty area of Los Angeles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch throughout the school year. Many of the families in this community have two income households and, still, barely make ends meet. Having a tough family where priorities revolve around needs and not wants can make it tough for my little Kinder Kuties to learn and grow at home. Being safe and having food on the table is what's the most important. There isn't much time or money to take the kids out to learn and explore.

My Project

Currently, there are very few minorities in the field of computer sciences. Why? There just isn't the support and opportunities for minority students. What if I could tell you that you can change that with a donation. Your contribution can open a world of opportunities and a brighter future for my students. I am trained and have become quite proficient at coding, computer programming and robotics but I have one little problem. I don't have the technology to teach. I can describe how to code and use a paper and pencil technique but this will not pique their interest. How do we learn? By doing! Hands on experiences are the way to learn and be engaged. Can you imagine if the students were able to sit with me in small groups with our MacBook Pro and actually code for themselves. They can train a robot to move around the class or program a computer to do various commands. How excited would they be! How excited would you be to learn that this is possible for 4 and 5 year olds. Let's do this! Please consider helping my students learn about computer science and open the doors to the future.
