Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are sixth graders in a Title I school. They are a class of culturally diverse students. They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. 100% of students received free breakfast and lunch. 65% of our school population are ELL learners. Nearly all of my students come from low-income households. The microphones would enable my students to hear themselves read and increase their comprehension and accuracy, which in turn would build their self-confidence when reading, as well as when speaking.
My Project
The microphones will allow students to hear what they sound like when reading enabling them to be more accurate and increase their reading comprehension. They will also be able to practice retelling what they have read and to reread for better accuracy and comprehension when needed. The students will also be more engaged in their reading by using technology and gaining skills on accuracy, comprehension and listening skills. I plan on using the microphones for whole class instruction, two to three times a week and even more frequently for students who struggle and need more intense individual or small group instruction. The microphones will also allow me to listen to each student's reading to make instructional decisions.
