Computer Mice Looking For Furnishing Supplies

My students need an organizer, 25 mouse-pads (we've been using scratch paper for months now), and computer cleaning supplies to start off a brand new semester.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever tried to draw a picture with a mouse that goes all over the place? Well, the kids aren't trying to be Picasso, but they're getting there!

Our school is located in California and serves a high poverty population.

The students are highly energetic and full of passion - sometimes by an enormous amount. The majority of the students have worked with technology minimally and in the social context, but are new to the experience of using computers, tablets, and the Internet for theoretical, applications, and other academic purposes.

My Project

The new computer lab we purchased has 18 wonderful computers with zero mouse pads. As a result, the students often move their mice all over the place when trying to highlight a text passage or draw/edit an image. The results are hilarious at times, but frustration sets in for the rest. For example, when trying to crop a picture and remove certain artifacts from a face, a good number of them will remove the eyes because the cursor jumps to the wrong area. When tracing a route on Google Maps, the path goes off in the wrong direction. Additionally, students constantly are touching the screen and leaving fingerprints and marks because a few of them have adopted the belief that if you guide the mouse physically with your fingers on the screen, it works better. Additionally, I am requesting for a laser line pointer and an organizational box to help with paperwork students have. Though this is a computer class, there is still a surprising amount of paper involved.

My students are deserving students who should succeed, but not be subjected to periodic and constant frustration.

Please help these students by giving their poor isolated mice a little place they can call home.
