My group of third graders is truly a great group. They consist of 2 identified ESL students, 1 student on the autism spectrum, 2 students who receive special education services, and lots of sweet and caring attitudes. My students are respectful and studious. We have a class pledge we recite every day that says: "I pledge allegiance to my class and to the principles for which it stands. I can learn anything I set my mind to. I must listen to learn. My teacher and classmates will support me. If I do my very best I will succeed in life." They truly believe that they can do anything they set their minds to. I love my students' positive attitude and their empathy toward each other. They love having class discussions and they create a safe environment for learning and friendship.
We recently had the opportunity for each student to have their own Chromebook to do writing, reading stories online, and our school-wide ELA practice.
It has been a great opportunity, but the students get frustrated that our headphones and mice are limited and they can hear each others' computers. They love having their new computers.
My Project
My students love their new Chromebooks that our school purchased. I never thought each student would be able to have their own laptop in my classroom. Receiving an entire classroom set of laptops with students logging in to their "very own computer" was futuristic to me and I was thrilled to learn it was happening THIS year.
My students struggle to maneuver and select things on their laptops because they are more comfortable using a computer mouse.
I have a few right now, but the wires are being pulled out and they constantly have to be fixed. It is my wish to have wireless mice so the students can navigate quickly and the wires will not be damaged so quickly.
