This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I public school serving grades 6-12 located in a low-income area of the South Bronx. We have a large number of students with IEPs, English Language Learners, and 99% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced price lunch.

Our students are passionate, engaged and amazing young people who dream of successful and exciting futures for themselves and their families.

They work hard every day in school to make their big dreams a reality.

My Project

In my classes, I try to include opportunities for project-based learning because I know that students learn best by actually "doing". Currently we have some very basic laptops for students to use for research and projects but they are not equipped to handle videos or the editing equipment that students need. There is always a rush for the one or two "good" computers that have high processing speeds and can handle uploads and downloads without freezing. I don't want students to keep competing for resources, I want all of them to have access to what they need. I've worked hard to modernize my classroom and give students access to technology that makes learning more exciting.

Our students deserve an education and a classroom that is engaging and reflects what they will experience in their future professional lives.

Over the last few years I have been trying to improve our classroom computer lab. Each computer I add replaces a severely outdated one that the students are currently using.

This Macbook Air will be used daily by students in my class as well as during after-school homework club to help them learn and engage with the world around them!
