Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation, and all students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. The school is predominately Latino and African American. Thirty percent of the students are English language learners, and some are the first of their families to graduate. Despite all of this, 100% of our graduating seniors are college or career bound.
Our students should have the same opportunities as any other student in the country.
They work hard to succeed without letting anything get in their way. As a community school, each year our graduation rate has increased, and we want to make their learning as meaningful and purposeful as possible.
We almost had a full computer cart, but that lasted about a month. Our class just got two new students mid year, plus one of the old chrome books doesn't receive updates anymore. This new batch of computers will help us return to a full computer cart, which the students use every single day to do any, and all of their lessons.
