Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

SEE, HEAR and TOUCH with AUTISM. I currently teach at a High School autism focus class. We are the first High School- program in a low-income district! Its very exciting and we are paving new ground with all autism kids.

I NEED to SEE! I NEED to HEAR! I WANT to KNOW! Many of the current 9th graders with autism have auditory and physical sensory disabilities, which takes them out of noisy places such as classrooms with high numbers, and computer labs, but they are able to do the work. A couple of the teachers here have web cams and are more than happy about putting their lecture on while the student sits in my classroom to complete the work. So they would be virtually in the classroom. Technology is amazing, we just need a little help!

My autism students need at least 2 laptop computers, to help them see self reflections of behaviors and allow them to manipulate Math and English assignments on a word processor. By giving them the power to be involved in General Education curriculum and lectures while sitting on the other side of campus in a quiet environment will allow them to do this! This will prepare them for college! How cool!

With your help my students will be able to participate in more activities school wide and instill in them the confidence they need over the next couple of years to go to college and most importantly be prepared with the learned skills that a laptop would provide.
