This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Most of my students have limited financial stability and are accustomed to under-funded schools with inadequate technology. They are generally comfortable with technology (especially cellphones) but often don't know how to navigate computers very well and have limited opportunities to learn these skills in their classes.
This project will help replace the dying computer infrastructure in my classroom.
I currently have two, ten-year-old iMacs, which are several OS versions out of date and can no longer support Google docs. After scanning projects, students must currently use a flash drive to copy their files over to their Chromebooks. If this project is funded, the new iMac will provide a dependable computer to allow students to scan artwork, manipulate images, and work on their assignments in Google classroom seamlessly. The new processor will allow for a quicker, more enjoyable process without the frustrating work-arounds and laggy performance students are currently used to. A new computer will also send a very clear message to my students: they are worth having the best!
