My students are an amazing group of kids. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It serves 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.
Our school has a strong academic and athletic culture.
I want to maintain our strength in these areas by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of audiobooks and a class set of the biography of Jane Goodall.
This year I have been sharing audiobooks with my students instead of reading aloud.
I have been wearing a mask and it is hard to project my voice so it is hard to read a chapter book to my students. Fortunately, with audiobooks, I can offer my students the same experience of listening to stories. Many of the books I share with my students are books that are slightly above their readability level so they are being challenged with more difficult vocabulary and content. When we finish listening to the story, students take the AR test to check for comprehension.
