My Students
As a special education teacher in a low-income inner-city school, I have the opportunity to meet the social, emotional and academic needs of some awesome pre-k thru fifth-grade students. Many of my students come from very difficult situations and work hard so that they can become successful learners. They are motivated to show progress so that they can enroll in excellent middle and high schools upon graduation. Our school has been one of the top performing schools on the MAP test for the past two years.
My Project
My students are working hard to increase their reading comprehension skills. They are focusing on sequencing, finding the main idea and details, and facts/opinions at this time. They would love to have the opportunity to practice these skills by playing games. The games listed above would allow them to practice these new skills in a fun way.
Playing games not only will increase their reading comprehension skills but will allow them to work on their social skills as well!
Many of my students need to practice working cooperatively and playing games is a great way to do just that! It's a fun way to practice multiple skills.
