My students need a set of reading comprehension games.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Burke's classroom raised $191
This project is fully funded
I teach 20 second graders in a relatively rural Title 1 school. More than 50% of my class receives free breakfast and lunch at school. 5 students are served in some capacity by the Exceptional Children program. 8 are certified as gifted. 6 others are served by the speech-language pathologist. 4 of my kids speak Spanish at home and are served in the English Language Learners program at my school.
Because I have such diverse needs in my classroom, I choose to teach my reading instruction in small groups. I have book sets that we use for guided reading with me. We also have a skills workbook that my half-day assistant works on with the kids, supporting them as necessary. what we are lacking are meaningful things that the kids can do when they are not with us in our groups.
I have found a set of reading comprehension games that work on following directions, making predictions, reading for details, fact and opinion, using context clues, and sequencing events. It would be great to have this set of games, because the children who are not with me or my assistant could be playing these games and applying the skills that we are working on in both reading groups.
Having the games set would be a fabulous addition to our reading group time in my class. I have a parent that has volunteered to come in and help if I need her. I would love for her to come in and supervise these games with the kids. I would also share these resources with my teammates so their kids could benefit from them as well. It would be fantastic for the kids to get this kind of practice with reading comprehension skills while they are having so much fun doing it.
