Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with many economic and emotional challenges both in and out of the classroom. My campus is a Title I school where the majority of the students are considered at risk. My class consists of bilingual students that are learning to speak, write and spell in English and Spanish. Although, many of my students struggle with the English language they come to school every day eager to learn. Despite their challenges, they work hard to achieve academic success!
My Project
Reading comprehension practice cards are a great resource to engage my students in reading. These cards include the following: fiction, non-fiction, poetry and many other engaging texts that students enjoy reading.
These instructional cards will be use to teach and engage students with reading, comprehension, grammar and vocabulary.
It would be splendid if every student had a few sets of cards to practice with his or her partner.
This resource is great for beginning and advance readers. It also provides additional instructional support for my bilingual students.
I feel my students will really enjoy understanding what they are reading as they practice these skills with the teacher and with one another.
