My Students
History on the Hill is a magical place where students are pushed to dream higher and go further than they have ever imagined.
Teaching a diverse group of students can be difficult.
Students in my classroom make up many different nationalities and represent a broad range of abilities. We are striving to continue making high growth with very few resources and a brand new curriculum. Our school is a large suburban school that is one of the most diverse in the state. Our students have a range of abilities but it is the goal of our school to eliminate the achievement gap and push all of our students towards excellence.
My Project
My students need to not only read about the power of an education, but they need materials to actively advocate for it. I am requesting the most personalized form of advocacy I can, a bold T-Shirt. A shirt that is full of activists just like Malala. Students will view the movie 'He Named Me Malala'. After viewing the video we will have a Socratic Seminar entitled 'Is education a human right?". On our human rights activism day, students will wear their shirts and educate other students, staff, and community members on what it means to 'complicate the narrative' and do the unthinkable like Malala. Students will collect signatures on a petition to send to local legislature urging them to view education as a human right.
My students are very fortunate to attend an awesome school.
To them, they don't have to think a lot about education. This project will help them to not only learn about the power and need for education for all, but it will help them become activists in their own worlds.
