My Students
Do you remember the first time you found something online that blew your mind? My students will have that 'light bulb' moment more often with the help of these materials.
Students at our school attend often while facing critical challenges at home and in the community.
Many students attend because of the inspiration and challenge provided in our classrooms, as well as the relationships that we are able to build. Increasing technology opens new doors every day.
Students at this urban school in Missouri are driven to succeed. When placed in a challenging, tech-savvy classroom, they have shown the ability and drive to create projects that are both interesting and helpful to the community which our school serves. Students have been through challenges themselves, and many have a great desire to give back to the community by conducting projects that are real and meaningful. Unfortunately, a lack of access to technology makes it more difficult to plan and carry out these projects. Not impossible, mind you. We're still doing amazing things every day. Just more difficult.
My Project
Over the past few years, the school district has inched towards a one-to-one technology program. Like many urban schools, there is grant money available to buy the technology, but there is often a lack of resources to build the type of infrastructure that is required for a tech-savvy classroom to truly take off. Many of the projects and activities conducted with our set of iPads are planned on a PC - this results in a lot of glitches. As much as I wish I could say otherwise, high school students start to check out the more glitches occur! In a previous project, a teacher iPad was funded to help solve this problem. This project will complete the original need by adding the accessories to that teacher iPad such as a carrying case, a microphone/earphone, stylus and an adapter cable to allow the iPad to be connected to our projector. These accessories will help me use the iPad mini that was previously funded to its fullest capability!
Your donation to this project is a donation to help support the movement of education into the 21st century.
Many careers require that employees be tech-savvy. It only makes sense that as we educate young people, we do so in a tech-savvy manner. Access to an iPad and its accessories during after-school hours when the planning of projects and activities takes place, will help me to increase the real-world learning of my students.
