Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are a diverse, rambunctious classroom full of inquisitive, musically-inclined four and five year olds. We spend our days exploring, reading, and debating. Attending school in a high-need, low-income area, we lack some basic resources, but we make up for it with zeal, tenacity, and resiliency.

One of our favorite areas in our classroom is the library.

We love to visit libraries and read with our families, and we can't wait to get to school and continue our love of reading books, comic books, magazines, and other text print materials.

My Project

Books are windows into different worlds. Children use them to escape into spaces that feed their imagination and foster their sense of adventure. Our classroom lacks seating to furnish our library. We need a couch to comfortably enjoy our reading materials.

Reading does not just happen in the library, it happens all over our classroom!

We also need flexible sitting to take our books all over the classroom. With 20 students, we need flexible seating cushions to accommodate our classroom population. Exposure to books is such an important part of our development as early learners. We want our classroom library to be a comfortable and inviting place for us to learn and explore!
