My students need 21 boxes of various level 24 Game cards to build their math skills.

Who would have thought that 5th graders would give up recess to do Math? I teach 5th grade in a high need community. The families in this blue collar community are hard working and want to give their kids every opportunity. Although they are very supportive, many don't have the resources or education to do that so they look to the school to provide those opportunities. My students are enthusiastic and want to learn.
Although this is a great way to increase confidence and math skills, the cards are expensive and not in the budget for our school. I bought a few sets for my class but I have students at different levels of mastery in Math. After they master the sets I have, there is nothing to keep them challenging themselves to go on to more difficult concepts. That's why cards of various levels of difficulty are needed.
I have worked with the 24 Game in the past and have seen students go from not knowing their basic facts to solving 45 cards in 10 minutes. Their confidence soars and their test scores have increased. Different levels of difficulty would provide the opportunity for all students to be involved at a level that would challenge their ability, from learning basic facts to more advanced 5th grade skills such as integers. The 24 Game provides a competitive way for them to learn not only mental math skills but to discover the importance of patterns in math. Our district has a 24 competition each year. I would like to prepare my students for that competition as well as use it to strengthen their math skills.
Your help will reap many benefits:
>Raise student interest in Math
>Increase math skills on many levels
>Provide practice for students to compete
competitively in District Math Competitions
>Raise self confidence
>Improve State Test scores
>Help students challenge themselves to go
beyond what they think they are capable of
doing
>Increase the number of students taking
advanced Math classes
