Our small K-12 school in Johnson Bayou on the coast line of Louisiana was destroyed by Hurricane Rita. We are still not able to occupy our school building as repairs are being made and students attend class in portable buildings. While our community is slowly being rebuilt, the students get to escape the harsh reality of their home life while at school. In my high school math classes, I strive to make learning math fun and relate lessons to real life situations. Since all of our teaching resources were destroyed by the hurricane we are making do with the bare essentials. In some classes, we still do not have books. I would like to bring some excitement back into all my classes by having Quiz-Bowl challenges and tournaments. Competitions are a fun way to encourage learning and motivate students to try harder. We will be able to have both individual and team competitions. Also, the equipment can be used by any teacher in the school for any subject and any grade level. Summit Learning has a Wireless Classroom Challenger package. It includes eight response buzzer modules, a teacher reset module, and comes in a protective carrying case. Children learn more when they are having fun and I want to do everything possible to bring some fun back into the lives of our students.
