High School Journalism Program Seeks Camera, Lens

Help me give my students quality camera equipment for the Wildcat online newspaper.

My Project

The Wildcat student newspaper has one camera to share amongst a staff of 30 journalists, which requires us to rely on the student's, and their parent's, personal equipment. A second camera with a high-quality lens will allow more professional-caliber coverage of on-campus and local events without relying on the availability of their equipment, and without the annual turnover of graduating photographers (who graduate with their equipment). For instance, one of our photographers takes stunning candids and portraits with his Lumix and collection of lenses, but because the program loses our talented student journalist to graduation this spring, we also lose his top-flight equipment.

Another benefit of having a camera in-class is the opportunity to train new staff members on the camera's use, resulting in more students developing proficiency in, and hopefully passion for, photography.

We're currently reliant on students to already own high-end cameras when they join the class, versus having the in-class means to shoot with great tech.
