Compassionate Connection Cards: Building Empathy through Service Learning

My Project
This year, all eleventh grade students will be participating in a service learning project. Our students have identified mental health, isolation and loneliness as our community need for our class project. This project will provide materials for two teachers and a total of 5 classes to have all the resources they need to complete their own encouraging cards to their identified recipients. Each student has their own focus group to target with their card which means we can reach more folks and students are more invested in making their messages special.
From the elderly, to veterans, or to the homeless, or to abuse victims, or single parents, there are so many people who need to feel connection with others all around us; our goal is for our cards to reach as many of them as we can.
We want to spread some joy and encouragement to those who are suffering from loneliness, discouragement, or mental health issues.
Contributing to this project will allow our students to put an artistic flare on their written notes to community members who are suffering. Please help us make this a meaningful and rich experience for 120 juniors this marking period.
