This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of amazing learners, which includes K-3rd grade levels.
I will read the book "How to Help a Friend" to learn the many ways to support their friends when they need it.
Whether someone needs to talk, play, or sit quietly, my students will learn how to show compassion and empathy to their friends in need.
Sticker making encourages students to consider the feelings and experiences of their peers. By creating personalized stickers with encouraging phrases, using the Cricut for those going through a rough time, students learn to step into the shoes of others and understand how their actions can positively impact someone else's day.
To encourage kindness toward people, my students will make stickers to reward compassionate behavior. When we notice one of the students considering the feelings of another, we will take a moment to draw attention to them and their empathetic actions and then present the student with a sticker.
Similarly, discussing empathy through sticker making, using the Cricut as well, helps students gain a deeper understanding of different perspectives and experiences. Students learn to empathize with others and appreciate the diversity within their community.
This Cricut will teach my students to see the world through the eyes of others. It will gauge students' comprehension and application of compassion through their demonstrated acts of kindness and supportive behavior towards their peers. Learning about the things we all have been through creates compassion and understanding for others.
