Compassion, Kindness and Empathy through Literature
My students need mentor texts and book club books to teach compassion, kindness and empathy.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. G.'s classroom raised $599
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are a great group of fourth graders with a variety of strengths, talents and needs. Our school is a Title 1 school. In our school we have children from low socio-economic families, middle class families, English Language Learners, a variety of cultures, gifted students and students who receive Reading assistance or who work with the special education teachers.
In my classroom, students know that they are expected to do their personal best each day, Students work hard to reach the goals that have been set.
Each day students are able to participate in the Universal breakfast program. Each child in our school is given a free breakfast so that they can start their day with a healthy breakfast.
My Project
This project has an excellent selection of books that can be used to teach empathy, kindness and compassion. The books will be used in our classroom as mentor texts and as "Book Club" books. Students will be able to read or listen to the text, get to know the characters, discuss the lives of the characters, and journal their thoughts and feelings.
After reading each book, we will take the time to have a call for action.
We will brainstorm how we can help others who might be in the same situation as the characters in the book. Students will have the opportunity to put some of their ideas into action. This project will focus on kindness, empathy, and compassion and how we can make the world a more welcoming place.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
More than half of students from low‑income households
