Compassion in Music

Help me give my students books, beads, and new activities for next school year that will help teach compassion!

My Project

My students are kind and loving. They love coming to music, and I love creating music with them!

This project will get us a gift card that will buy new activities, games, and lessons that will be used to teach students about compassion.

Students will learn about compassion to see the world through the eyes of another person through music.

Music is a wonderful way to teach students to be kind! Listening to someone's music allows you to gain insight into who they are, which will help students to understand them more and be full of more compassion and empathy! For example, a lesson based on the music of composers of color who wrote about the struggles of racism will help students to have compassion for those who look different than them. After learning about composers of color, students will be asked to think about other ways people can feel alienated from those around them. This will lead us into conversations about bullying, and what my students can do to stop bullying. I will measure students' success in learning about compassion by having students come up with a way they can be compassionate to their classmates rather than ignoring or promoting bullying.

There are also a few books in this project that can be used to teach compassion. Story books are a fun way for students to be creative and come up with music and movement to match the story! One of these books is The Rainbow Fish, which will help teach students about sharing and can lead to even more conversations about compassion!

This project will also get us new beads for making keychains for our recorder cases, which is a fun bonding activity for students.

These resources will be incredibly useful and engaging for all my students!
