Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Research shows that students often miss school if they don't have basic hygiene needs met. My goal is to have my students create Compassion Kits that can help nurture any students at our schools learning by making them feel comfortable and ready for the school day. I plan to have my students use the basic hygiene items and snacks to create a kit for any students that may need support. If students need to freshen up with deodorant, they need lotion or Vaseline for their skin & lips, gloves for the winter, or snacks when they may have missed a meal they can grab any item needed and use it. My students will be able to look through the eyes of someone in need and help fulfill that basic human need for them.
Hygiene and Compassion Kits can help students feel cared for and nurtured by their fellow classmates.
My student will write encouraging notes to add to each bag that will help uplift someone else. I will measure my students' understanding of compassion by their acts of kindness, understanding of others' needs, and through their actions.
