My students need a variety of preserved specimens to be able to compare their anatomical structures.

My Students
I teach Biology in the largest school in our County. As with so many schools, funding has been completely cut back, and class sizes are on the rise. One of my primary focuses, other than teaching content, is to make this class one in which all students learn and grow to reach their own individual potential.
My students are athletes, scholars, artists, workers, gifted, challenged, affluent, and impoverished.
Finding common ground for all these characteristics is one of my favorite challenges to undertake.
Your generous donation will be an integral part of achieving this project, and closing the achievement gap for all students. Thank you in advance for your support!
My Project
Students learn best when they are able to visualize the concept being presented. One of the best ways to see complexity in the animal kingdom is by doing labs where they compare their anatomy.
My students need samples of different species so they can observe different anatomical features.
This project will provide samples for them to observe, and also to practice the required skills for dissection. Earthworms are ideal for practicing basic techniques of dissection, and are the warm-up activity to frog dissections later on in the curriculum. The other samples of grasshoppers and crayfish are more complex, and teaches students the importance of specialized structure (like legs, eyes and mouths) that help the animal to survive.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
