"Change a little and you can change a lot." Kid President
I have 24 students in my classroom.
Twenty-four excited, eager, and kind students come to school ready to learn each day. Our school has 90% of students on free or reduced lunch. We also have 30% of our students who are English language learners. In my classroom, I have 9 students who are learning English as a second language.
My Project
A colorful and comfortable rug is just what we need to get our day started and continue learning in our classroom all day long. Every day, we begin our morning with a positive morning meeting to build our classroom community. This is a time where students sit together and greet each other, share something special, and play a class game. Throughout our day, we spend time on the carpet learning new reading and writing strategies, math concepts, and how to be a globally minded citizen. This rug provides students with their own square space so that they can focus more on learning. Having a special place to sit allows students to engage in our lessons throughout the day and do their personal best on the carpet.
Having a special spot to sit will empower my students each day.
Students will be excited to come to the carpet to learn, because it is an inviting and comfortable space. Students who are eager at school, learn better and are more successful in their future. In second grade, students are still working on their understanding of personal space. A rug is a great way for students to practice and master taking care of their personal space.
