it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 10th-grade students in our school experience the daily pressures of academics, personal challenges, and the uncertainty that comes with growing up. Many are navigating the complexities of being first-generation immigrants, balancing their identities while striving for success. To support their well-being, I want to create a calming space where they can see themselves, their friends, and their community reflected in a positive, uplifting way.
Using instant cameras and film, students will document moments of joy, collaboration, and personal growth.
This hands-on activity fosters mindfulness by encouraging students to slow down, appreciate the present, and find beauty in their daily experiences. The final product—our classroom photo wall—will serve as a visual reminder of their achievements, connections, and the support system around them. By surrounding them with images of their own success and belonging, this space will offer comfort, reduce stress, and create a sense of stability in their learning environment.
