Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students enter school ready to learn. We begin our school day with a good morning song and a morning meeting. This sets a positive tone for our day. I want my students to feel confident in their abilities and achieve success in all academic areas. I want to them to learn and enjoy learning.

My students are very lively.

They love to participate and learn new things. They are eager to use new materials introduced and help each other when they struggle. For the most part, my students are well behaved and follow the rules of our classroom. My school is a place where instruction is valued but has funding limitations to have our students go further.

My Project

This community helper project and push and pull would be placed in a discovery center. Our first literacy unit is community helpers. I would like to see my students role play using the various materials purchased and learn why community helpers are so important. Since most of my students lack background knowledge, the books will be support their schema and create that knowledge necessary to understand who community helpers are and what their roles is. Students will be able to read the books during their learning stations as well as during our Social Studies time. Students will be able to dress up as their favorite community helpers as well. The push and pull materials will support inquiry based learning and the role of forces in motion. With the materials purchased students will be able to manipulate and learn what objects are pulled or pushed.

Students will be introduced to community helpers through play and reading of texts. Students will get the opportunity to dress up as their favorite community helper. Learning about these various community helpers will help my students think about their future and what they can achieve. The push and pull resources will give my students the opportunity to explore through hands on inquiry.
