This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a new teacher of 13 wonderful kindergarten students. They love learning through hands-on projects. They work closely together, creating a small, student-centered learning community.
Our school is Title One, where 100% of the students receive both free breakfast and lunch.
The diverse community families receives support and services from our Community school. Our school is becoming more inquiry based, with more projects and hands on learning activities.
My Project
Our school is creating ways for our students to have more hands-on learning. Science is a fun and interesting way to get students interested in the world around them. With that, our school is planning to create a community garden that is a peaceful way to learn. Everyone in the school is welcome to participate to grow plants that will nourish our bodies and minds. The food from the garden will be able to feed the families of our students.
As our school builds the community garden, classrooms will need materials to start planting and exploring the wonders of all that comes with it.
My young students will love to be able to see their work as they observe the plants grow! Their fascination will continue to grow, and will inspire them to work on the garden yearly. The donations to my project will give them the supplies (like gloves, trowels, potting soil, and seeds) they need to start learning. The bug jars and nets will lead them to look even closer!
