This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher. I currently co-teach 5th-grade reading. We have found that co-teaching in the classroom has created a classroom community environment, that allows not only the opportunity for students to learn but allows the opportunity for each student to feel part of something.
COVID-19 has impacted several students.
Some have lost parents, grandparents, and other family members. In our classroom, we try to create a welcoming environment that allows our students to feel relaxed, and part of a community. This classroom environment allows our students the opportunity to be creative, interact, and understand the importance of belonging to a community within the classroom. This opportunity has allowed our students to engage in classroom novel study activities. but the ability to provide flexible seating allows students to feel comfortable while learning. We understand the importance of community building in order for our students to not only grow in their education but also learn to read!
My Project
These items will help my students learn in a fun, creative, and welcoming environment. As a special education teacher, I feel that the environment plays a big role in the learning process.
The ability to have flexible seating will allow my students not only to feel welcomed but also feel they are part of a community.
This flexible seating will allow my students to interact in the general education classroom with their peers, but also give them the ability to have choices on where to sit. Community building helps our students not only learn together but also learn to read while having fun!
