Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 18 amazing third graders in a K-5 Title I elementary school that serves 650 students. 100% of these students received free and reduced-price lunch. Many of my students face challenges inside and outside the classroom. Despite many of my students being below grade level, they come to school ready to face new challenges, move forward, and learn.

I strive to create a classroom environment with high expectations that is safe, stable, engaging and a place students can grow.

I work hard to make lessons relevant and meaningful to their lives and personal experiences to motivate my students to take ownership of their education. I would like the opportunity to provide this experience by ensuring my students have all the resources and supplies that will help them continue to grow and love learning.

My Project

Building a strong classroom community is essential at the beginning of the school year. Students should always feel they are entering a space where they are supported. In order to reach our goals, we must work together as a class. Fostering a sense of community creates a safe and secure classroom environment that allows students to grow and learn.

As we start this school year virtually, building a strong classroom community is more important than ever.

The books in this project will not only help me build this community, but will simultaneously build a love of reading. All of these books remind students that who they are and where they come from matters, and they should always be themselves.
