Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The rug, floor cushions, and futon sofa I am requesting will create a safe and welcoming space in my classroom for Community Building circles. These circles are designed to help students connect with one another, share their thoughts, and build empathy. By having a designated area on the rug for group discussions, students will feel more comfortable and supported while engaging in open conversations. The floor cushions and futon sofa will provide additional comfort, encouraging students to relax and participate more fully. These items will not only improve the physical comfort of the classroom but also promote a sense of community, where students can bond and express themselves freely.
The goal of this project is to create a classroom environment that supports social-emotional learning and fosters a culture of respect, inclusion, and trust.
I want students to feel heard, valued, and safe in the classroom, which will lead to stronger relationships and better collaboration. Community Building circles will allow students to develop important skills such as active listening, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution. These skills are critical for success both inside and outside the classroom. Ultimately, my goal is to help students grow into compassionate, responsible individuals who contribute positively to their school community.
My students are special because they come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique perspectives to the classroom. Despite the challenges they may face, they are eager to learn and grow. Many of my students are still developing their social and emotional skills, and creating a safe space for them to express themselves is key to their growth. They show incredible resilience and kindness, and by providing a space for them to build relationships and communicate openly, I believe they will continue to flourish and succeed.
