Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is over 95% students of color, with a diverse Latino, Black, and Filipino student body. The vast majority qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Our students are looking for a supportive, safe and challenging school to be in.
My Project
Advisory students meet to build community and gain academic knowledge and skills. With these LEGO kits, students can work in groups to think through story scenes, create stories, compete on challenges - and interact without their phones.
Activities that promote camaraderie and creative thinking are critical to our success.
During remote learning students spent a great deal of time on their phones, and had limited opportunities to build social skills that may have atrophied. These activities are a sure way to re-engage students with their school community and to rekindle teenager's imaginations.
