Help me give my students a meaningful community service opportunity in South LA!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would love to help my students see that they have the power to serve their communities. We will be doing a community service BINGO. Each student will get a plastic home to school folder to help them keep track of their school work. In the back pocket will be their community service BINGO card with a variety of things they can choose to do to serve in their homes and communities. When a student earns his/her first BINGO, he/she gets to choose a mechanical pencil. Students can earn a bonus box of lead for completing a blackout.
The class will brainstorm as a class things they want to put on the BINGO cards…things they could do safely such as:
Invite someone to play at recess.
Clean up trash in the lunchroom.
Clean up trash in the play ground.
Open the door for someone at a store or restaurant.
Put a grocery cart in a parking lot away.
If the class can’t think of 24 different items, (free space in the middle) we can repeat some on the BINGO cards.
Students can self-monitor their BINGOS, and when they have earned the prize will have a mechanical pencil and box of replacement leads to remind them that they made a difference!
