My Project
This fall, I am resuming my role as a teacher in 3rd Grade.
In addition to delivering instruction in content areas, teachers also spend an extraordinary amount of time each day teaching students to care about the needs and concerns of others.
I will be connecting our students with another classroom through Empatico, a program that offers activities and virtual exchanges between classrooms around the world. By connecting with students in other communities and countries, students will be able to learn and care about others whose lives are different from theirs. This project requests a one year subscription to Kami App, which will allow students to complete online activities by making notations about their Empatico experiences onto .pdf files. They can then send these files to their school-age counterparts for further comments.
While Empatico activities encourages a worldwide view of other cultures, we also teach our students that compassion begins at home. This project requests chair glides that will support a substantial amount of sound reduction in the classroom for those students with sensitivity to excess noise. As the guides are frequently used, it is anticipated that students will enter other environments mindful of how dragging chairs and tables can negatively impact their peers. In addition, we are seeking to include plushy toys as reward incentives for students who advance towards their i-Ready reading and mathematics learning targets at the end of the academic year. So often, we only recognize students who are high achievers. Since most, if not all, students make some form of growth by the end of the year, rewarding them with their own i-Ready themed plushy toy will allow all students be on a level playing field supporting and encouraging one another.
