Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I deeply care for and love each of my students for their individuality. They are true to themselves and I strive to never take that away from them. The environment I create for them during “Speech” includes love, respect, curiosity, play, acceptance, and advocacy… just to name a few.

When I have access to a printer than also has color ink (not only black ink), I am utilizing a multi-sensory approach to speech-language therapy by including detailed visual cues.

I provide a holistic and individualized approach to therapy, regardless of group size. Treating the whole person in regard to body function, activities, participation, social-emotional, etc. is my primary goal for every student I treat. Use of fidget items, social-emotional activities such as arts and crafts, and visual problem

solving scenarios, aid in co-regulation and processing abilities when it comes to tough emotional moments.

Many individuals believe speech-language therapy is only “playing a game” or “playing with toys”. However, our children nowadays benefit from multi-sensory, hands on exposure to board games and building sets to aid in the development of fine and gross motor skills, problem solving abilities, sequencing and planning abilities, attention, memory, receptive and expressive language, sensory integration, and so much more! Not only do games help with developmental and academic aspects of life.. they are fun! It is evidence base that when individuals are involved in intrinsically motivating and fun activities- brain connections in learning are made at an increased rate! I love learning because I have always been curious since I was a child. I desire to continue to share this gift with the children I treat.
