Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten students in the South Bronx who come to school ready to learn and deserve endless resources, experiences, and opportunities.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and many come from families at lower income levels.
Many of my students come from challenging home environments and have limited resources at home. Despite the obstacles, my students come to school (in person or virtual) every day to a place where they are being molded into great students and learners.
My Project
Communication is at the forefront of every aspect of education. My students are from diverse families, where most of their families speak Spanish.
Now more than ever I will have to communicate with my student's families and unfortunately this is a major roadblock for us.
The Department of Education used to have a translating service where teachers could dial in and have a translator on the line to make phone calls. This service does not exist anymore.
Due to the nature of learning during the pandemic I will have to conference with my parents on phone calls and video chats. This device will allow me to translate what I am saying to their language in real time, as well as translate what they are saying back to English.
