My Students
I teach in a specialized school for students with disabilities in Brooklyn, NY. At this school, the student's programs are individualized to meet their unique needs and interests. The students I teach, are Autistic students entering Middle School. This is an exciting and challenging time for students as they adapt to a new school environment and transition to adolescence.
My Project

My students are thoughtful and creative individuals who need even more thoughtful and creative means to expressive themselves as many of them have speech and language impairments.
One method that has been effective in the classroom is providing students with opportunities to engage in student-led, open-ended art explorations.
Students communicate their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives through selecting projects that are of personal interest and exploring different elements of art such as color, line, and space. Students also identify and select different images that have meaning and incorporate them into their art.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
