My students need printer inks as they need visual supports in the classroom. From functional routines to preacademic lessons, our class uses a lot of icons to represent actions and objects in the classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Special Day Class is blessed with Transitional Kindergartners and Kindergartners ages 5 to 6. I have an interesting group of special needs students who have high needs in the areas of receptive and expressive language.
At their age, learning language or at least learning alternative ways to communicate is critical.
They need an environment that is non-threatening; a place where they will feel safe and understood. As their teacher, I make sure that the individual lessons I create are easy to understand, and give enough opportunities for them to participate and respond.
My Project
My project will fund Laserjet printer inks that I will use to print different communication boards and icons. My students are all eligible for speech therapy, and reinforcing the techniques of the speech therapist by making all modes of communication available in the classroom will help my students in their receptive and expressive language. Each month, I print about 400 pages of my curriculum to meet my students' needs. This includes the colored worksheets that I laminate for their individual preacademic needs, and the icons needed by my students who are still learning to communicate. These printed and laminated icons and worksheets are not just used in the classroom but are continued at home with their families too.
