Many students at my school are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication. An ipad with a speech-generating app will allow the student access to a robust vocabulary and learn to communicate his wants and needs, communicate socially, protest, and give and request information. These devices typically have visual symbols representing words in addition to print and voice output.
An ipad equipped with a speech-generating app will allow a student to interact with his teachers, peers, family, and community at a symbolic level.
All people have the right to participate fully in communication, and an ipad will give that opportunity to one student.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
