This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One hour of my school day is devoted to specifically teaching English Language Learners. This group of students is in the process of acquiring English and the hour spent with them is devoted to improving student’s English in all language domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The many books I have chosen for this project will aid in my development of engaging and enjoyable lessons.

Paulo Freire said, “Only through communication can human life hold meaning.” Multilingual learners are searching for meaning each day but have an added layer of confusion when they enter the school because of the language barrier.

We don't always have people who can speak with them in their first (and often, only) language. Translators will allow students to convert both spoken and written English into the student’s home language.
