Communication Boards & Tools for Special Needs Students with Autism
Help me give my students the ability to communicate by giving them communication cards and board because some of my students struggle with language and expressing themselves.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many students with Autism struggle with communication, with both expressive and receptive language. By providing my students with a communication board, they will be able to use picture cues and cards to identify their wants and needs.
Communication boards are so critical to students with Autism; they encourage communication while maintaining autonomy and independence.
These boards and cards will help us, as teachers, understand our non-verbal students and foster communication in the classroom environment.
Since these boards/cards are portable, it's very easy for students to take them with them to other classrooms, outside for recess, and to specials. These boards also can be modified to specific lessons or skills, and foster growth for students who otherwise wouldn't be able to verbally communicate at school.
