My students need a document camera, magnetic write and wipe boards, clipboards and Common Core exemplars to facilitate collaboration in the classroom, and student-lead instruction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Quiet classrooms are no longer in, they say. That's "old" school! The word is they want chaos now. Controlled chaos, that is. Yes. Noisy classrooms where students can collaborate with their peers to wrestle with and solve problems, and teachers can throw curve balls instead of lifesavers.
My students are already on the right track for Common Core!
They are part of a unique Spanish Magnet program that teaches them Spanish in addition to all our other mainstream curricular subjects. Not only are they learning a second (and in some cases third) language, but what is more, they are getting exposed to the customs, traditions, and history of other Spanish-speaking countries.
This program gives us teachers the wonderful opportunity to promote cultural awareness and inspire our students to be open-minded. In this day and age, with our ever so culturally-diverse population, speaking a second language SHOULD be a prerequisite for this real-world readiness that Common Core is aspiring to produce. I applaud my students (and their parents) for getting a jump start on the demands of the future job-market. Unfortunately, "new school" comes with new requirements and resources that are somewhat limited in my classroom.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will help promote student-lead conversations, explanations, and demonstrations. The document camera for example, will allow students to take front stage and articulate their individual thought processes when problem solving, WHILE modeling for everyone to see. With clipboards, students can easily get up (work in hand) to interact with their peers. And with a white board, students can find more than one way of solving a problem (like drawing instead of writing). These tools would help my students take part in the problem-solving process in a collaborative AND creative manner.
Since this is my first full-time year back in the classroom after a four-year absence, I feel I am poorly equipped to service the needs of my students.
One can say I am starting from the "bottom" in my teaching career, and I hate to limit the potential of my students' success to my rookie resources. If Common Core is truly the name, then "persevering when struggling" is also my game.
