My Students

I have been working hard to align my classroom curriculum with the Common Core Standards. One way to achieve this, is by having multiple, in-depth author studies so students become aware and familiar with many famous authors.

My first grade students are naturally inquisitive and eager to learn new things.

Most of my students have a strong support system through their parents, peers; and all of them have a strong support system and academic drive through their teachers. Our school creates a friendly, positive learning environment for all students. Recently, our school has been working hard to align with the Common Core Standards by implementing more in-depth text studies. That is where I got the idea to do an author study each month of the school year.

My Project

We need multiple Eric Carle books for an in-depth author study on Eric Carle. It is so much fun to read a book in my classroom by an outstanding author. I feel that if my class focuses on one author each month, and as a class, we look closely at books written by that author, my students will become aware and familiar with many famous authors and the books they wrote. As a class, we will make connections between the books we read by each author and learn more about the life of each author. Most importantly, I want my students to have fun and enjoy reading the books by each author.

My project will make a difference to my students because my students will become aware and familiar with many famous authors.

My students will be able to recognize the books they have read and will be able to link them to the proper author. On top of that, my students will also have knowledge about the author's life outside of writing. My project might also inspire some of my students to become authors when they get older.
