Help! My students need these 15 graphing calculators for the Common Core Algebra 1 Regents Exam in June. Their success depends on these tools for Statistics, Functions, etc.
Every morning, I ask my students to bring into the classroom a real life example of the previous topic. I am really fascinated by their ways of looking at a problem, by their research, and their comment.
My student population is very diverse: foreign language speakers, students with special accommodations, students with difficulty in their lives, and students with different math backgrounds.
Day by day, I was able to get to know them, teaching them and guiding them through their first year in high school. Coming from different backgrounds, it was hard initially to teach them, engage them, arrange activities accessible for everyone, and keep them focused and active in the classroom. I continuously talk to them about a better future and I see their eagerness to work hard for a better life.
My Project
It is the first year for them taking the Common Core Exam in Algebra and they have grown a lot, but the success depends on these graphing calculators. There are problems in this program that cannot be solved without a graphing calculator. We have practiced during the year in the computer lab and used the limited number of calculators for my classroom. But having the Regents Exam in Algebra 1 for the whole school, at the same day and time, creates difficulty in accommodating everyone with a calculator.
These 15 calculators will really make a difference in my kids' results.
Even a very good student needs this graphing calculator in the exam because there are questions that cannot be answered without it.
Thank you so much for your help!
