Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What I love most about my students is their incredible resilience, curiosity, and the unique way each of them engages with the world. They teach me every day that learning doesn’t look the same for everyone and that’s a beautiful thing. Many of my students face sensory processing challenges, communication delays, or learning differences, yet they show up with open hearts, eager minds, and a deep desire to connect, explore, and grow. Each of these requested resources plays a meaningful role in helping my students thrive. The noise-cancelling headphones provide students with a sense of calm and safety in environments that can easily become overwhelming. For children who are sensitive to sound, reducing auditory distractions can be the difference between shutting down and fully participating in a learning activity. The sensory tiles will bring joy and engagement to our learning spaces. These visually stimulating tiles encourage movement, focus, and curiosity. For many of my students, the colorful motion of the liquid tiles is soothing, helping them self-regulate so they can better participate in classroom routines. The busy board is a powerful tool for developing fine motor skills, independence, and problem-solving abilities. The sensory mats offer important tactile input helping students stay grounded and attentive. For children who are sensory-seeking these textured mats are incredibly helpful for calming, focus, and proprioceptive feedback during movement activities. Each of these tools has been chosen with care, based on the individual needs and strengths of my students. With the right supports in place, I’ve seen firsthand how students with sensory or developmental needs can flourish becoming more engaged and joyful learners. They are the heart of everything I do. I am grateful for the opportunity to advocate for them and to seek out resources that will help them reach their fullest potential.
