Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in East Harlem. They come from diverse backgrounds and many, from tough homes. They often seek to escape the world around them. For many, this means withdrawing from others and minimal socialization.

My students have a lot going on which sometimes distracts from their learning.

It is important for them to be reminded of how amazing they are and how much they can accomplish when they are focused and nurtured to do well.

My Project

Many of my students are stressed out about their home life, their families, their friendships with others, and in general they are stressed with the everyday choices they have to make.

My students need time to reflect and be creative.

These resources will allow my students the time to relax, practice skills beyond the everyday demands and build confidence through their efforts. By taking their time and being thoughtful, they can see the picture come together. I know for some students this will be challenging and at times frustrating, but I know that they will get through it and "stick" with it, and as an end result, they will feel proud of their efforts. At an age when middle-schoolers question themselves and lack self confidence to make better decisions, I know that these materials will go a long way in boosting effort; confidence; and their work ethic.
