Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My little kindergartners will be the first students in our new Dual Language program in my school. As part of the program my students will have two teachers, and learn two languages. My partner and I will have a total of 50 kids. Our kids are curious, amazing, and engaging little thinkers. The world is their playground and they are just getting to explore it.
My students are engaging, critical thinkers who are not always afforded the opportunities to experience different things.
As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students don't often leave the immediate radius around their homes. Things that are in the general area such as the Hudson River, and Morris Jumel Mansion are not always explored. As a result I want to provide students with the opportunity to have creative and meaningful learning experiences in informal settings.
I want them to know that the world is theirs, and my partner teacher and I, will help them reach out to grab it.
My Project
Collaborative small group work is very important in elementary school but especially in Kindergarten. In addition to learning about the proper behaviors expected in the classroom, students also learn how to work with others. The kidney table allows for students to work in small groups in a closer proximity to one another.
The kidney table will help facilitate guided reading groups as well as small group instruction.
In addition, the Kidney table will provide a space in which students can receive small group instruction. The width of the Kidney table really allows the teacher to demonstrate a book or a problem. It gives enough room for both the teacher and student to have the space for their materials.
Having a dedicated space for guided reading and small group instruction enhances the learning environment for the students. The table allows for a more intimate and comfortable learning environment for my students.
