Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am not the most athletic person and when I was in elementary school I dreaded PE and recess where we had to play team games. Since I was slow and couldn't kick very far, I always felt like I let my team down. In the grand scheme of things of course this shouldn't matter, but back then these were problems that tore my self esteem.
I see some of these social problems in my students.
These are still pandemic children who were not in school 2 years and lost on academic and social benefits. They're very quick to call on each others' faults and I want to build sportsmanship. Your donations will go towards funding activities that teach kids to take turns, put each other up, and practice basic skills for games they will engage in throughout the year. We are supposed to learn and practice flag football, but without the materials it is difficult. The balls will help us for when we have skill days and be there for game days as well. The badminton sets will help them learn patience as none of them have ever played that sport. They might get frustrated but be frustrated together as they learn something new. The toss and catch sets will be an easy game that they're familiar with and will help them hone their skills in fourth before playing softball in 5th. We have to do 20 min of PE every day, so we will use these materials on a rotation schedule Monday-Friday. They will also be available to students to take out during recess.
