Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My little learners will be the pioneers of the new Dual language program that we will be starting at my school this year. We will be utilizing a side by side model. Meaning my kiddos will be learning both English and Spanish with 2 teachers. There will be a total of 50 children. Many of the children are new to the school while others have never experienced formalized schooling. The students will be the models for other dual language classrooms that come after them.
Many of my students do not explore the community around them.
The life experiences they have are dependent on the schools to provide them. This is why as teachers we want to provide our students with the best possible.
My Project
I am asking for a carpet for my students. My students deserve a carpet that is not only meant to host our class meetings but a carpet where they can learn. This carpet will not only give my students a reason to stop fighting over the small carpet spaces they currently have, but also provide them with language and literacy essentials. My students will be able to sit more comfortably. But the carpet will also create a more inviting and warm classroom. I won't have to worry about my students sitting on a floor, or a carpet that is past it's prime. I will be able to look at my students and know that they are comfortable, and ready to learn.
This project will allow my students to learn and come together in one bilingual space.
This rug will physically bring the students closer. But most importantly it will allow students to see both languages they are learning. Many materials do not come in Spanish, and in general bilingual materials are not as abundant like in English. It will be nice to have the rug which is the focal point of many of our meetings and instruction, be in both languages.
